Four Delineations of Curtmantle

for solo cello

This virtuosic solo work conveys both the lyrical and the dramatic nature of the instrument.

Listen to a recording of the version for solo trombone on “It’s about time”, Eva Ordman, trombone. Available on Spotify.

Program Note

“Curtmantle” was the nickname given to Henry II, King of England (1133-1189), because of the short cloak or mantle which he wore (in contrast to the long cloaks worn by the Normans). The four Delineations are musical portrayals of four events in the life of the king.
